How to connect Google Analytics and Search Console
In this post, I’ll show you how to connect Google Analytics to Search Console. Linking Google Analytics to Search Console will allow you to pair up Search Console data, like impressions and clicks, with Google Analytics data, like page views and conversions. This set up will give you a deeper understanding of how your website is performing in organic search and help you be more strategic about where to focus on improvements.
Before we dive into the steps, keep in mind I’ve structured this post with the assumption that you already have Google Analytics and Search Console set up on your website. With that, let’s get started.
Steps to link Google Analytics and Search Console
I’ve included screenshots with this tutorial. With any of the screenshots, just click on the image to access a high-resolution picture.
- Open a browser window and log in to your Google Analytics account.
- Once you’re logged in, select Admin from the left menu.
- Under Property, select Property Settings.
- Scroll down to Search Console and select Adjust Search Console.
- Select Add.
- Find and select the correct property.
- Select Save. You see a prompt that tells you selecting this domain will remove any current connection in place. Select OK.
- Select Done.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Property Settings and select Save.
- Refresh Google Analytics. You should now see the property linked in Search Console > Adjust Search Console.
- Access the data by going to Google Analytics > Acquisition > Search Console.
Steps to unlink Google Analytics and Search Console
- Open a browser window and log in to your Google Analytics account.
- Once you’re logged in, select Admin from the left menu.
- Under Property, select Property Settings.
- Scroll down to Search Console and select Adjust Search Console.
- Select Delete.
- Inside of Search Console, select Delete.
- When prompted, select OK.
- Go back to Google Analytics. Select Save. Your Google Analytics account is now unlinked with Search Console.
